person was shot just after 11:00 p.m. and was taken to the hospital for what are believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries. the campus briefly went on lockdown but that lifted about three hours ago. >> ♪ >> 5:02. celebration this morning for the senate republicans after jumping the first hurdle if the fight to pass president trump's tax reform plan. >> the bill lays the groundwork for a massive overhaul of the nation's tax code. fox5's melanie alnwick live on capitol hill with the latest. mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys and republicans know that failure on tax reform here would be politically devastating given what's happened so far with their attempts to reform the healthcare bill. so, yes, they are somewhat in a celebratory mood but there still is a lot of caution. president trump, however, is joining in their celebration tweeting about 1 o'clock this morning. so, we're guessing he must have stayed up late. great news on the 2018 budget. first step toward delivering massive tax cuts for the american people. now, the vote was very close,

have unto 49 but senate republicans were able to push through their budget blueprint. tax reform hitches a ride on this because the budget measure sets up procedures to pass any follow-up tax legislation with a simple majority. that means republicans won't need to work for democrat votes. >> there's no question that this is absolutely a great opportunity for us. >> we haven't done tax reform since 1986. >> we need to do it but if we haven't done it for 30 years we shouldn't rush it. we should make sure we get it right. >> reporter: now, the senate budget itself is it controversial with large cuts to medicare and medicaid over the next 10 years plus trillions more. republicans say tax cuts in a follow-up bill will lead to economic growth that would fill the budget holes though that is disputed by democrats and scoring by the congressional budget office. now there is pressure in the house for them to go ahead and take the senate package and pass it as-is although we know that the house, those republicans and democrats ce

ideas when it comes to budget and tax reform, but senate leaders are concerned that if the house starts tinkering with the language that could lead to delays that they would not like to see. live on capitol hill, i'm melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> mel, thank you. 5:04 is the time. we're learning more this morning about the deadly ambush of green berets in africa. officials say after leaving that meeting an estimated 50 jihadist supporters of isis ambushed the soldiers leading to a gun fight. defense secretary jim mattis denies there was an intelligence failure. >> in the specific case contact was considered unlikely but there's a reason we have u.s. army soldiers there and not the peace corps because we carry guns and so it's a reality. >> pentagon officials say they initially were reluctant to put out statements about the attack because one of the victims, sergeant la david johnso

they feared he had been kidnapped. they feared giving out too much information might put his life in danger. sergeant johnson's body was found nearly 48 hours later. >> really difficult story here this morning. 84 under aged boys and girls forced into prostitution. they're now safe after a nationwide fbi sting. the fbi's operation cross country led to the arrests of 120 human traffickers. one trafficker was arrested after making a teal with an undercover agent to sell a three month old girl. and her five-year-old sister for sex. >> a way for them to make money they can turn them into prostitutes and it can be a lucrative business for them and it's a pretty horrific business. >> goodness. this is the 11th operation cross country which now runs internationally in canada, the uk and multiple countries in asia. >> ♪ now to a developing story closer to home. a girl scout troop leader from howard county is facing child porn charges. police began investigating stacy

he's charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. investigators say they found multiple images and videos of child porn on his computer. they're asking anyone who may have information about mizrahi to call him. >> champagne showers in the locker room of the l.a. dodgers. this will advance the dodgers onto the world series for the first time since 1988. enrique hernandez showing out on the field. he hits three home runs and drove in seven runs. final score in this one, it was a beat down of epic proportion, 11 to one. >> and in the chi, too. what in the -- >> you can catch game one of the world series right here on fox next tuesday. >> you know what i say? >> what. >> go yankees! >> now you're a yankee fan. >> they're going to take the best of that series. i've jumped ship. >> what did i say earlier about maureen. >> what did you say.

>> ♪ >> back now at 5:10. american country music duo big and rich returned to the stage for the first time since the deadly mass shooting. they hosted a benefit concert last night to honor the victims. they had performed 90 minutes from the shots rang out on october 1st killing 58 people and wounding hundreds. nearly 8,000 people attended. donations and profit from food and beverage sales all went to the victims funds. >> three people were killed and one person wounded in a shooting near colorado state university. it happened early yesterday morning. one of the victims killed was a student at the university. police alerted students and faculty yesterday via text and e-mail warning them to stay inside after shots were fired. police say the suspect was among those killed. >> u.s. customs and border protection just released images of border

prototypes. all stand between 18 and 30 feet high and according to the cbp web site are designed to deter illegal crossings in the area. one of president trump's key campaign promises was to build a wall along the 2000-mile u.s. border with mexico to fight illegal immigration. the border which stretches across four states already has 600 miles of barriers including fences and walls. new this morning general motors has agreed to pay $120 million over faulty ignition switches. the defect is linked to 124 deaths and 275 injuries. it prompted a mass recall in 2014. gm previously paid $2.5 billion in penalties and settlements over the faulty ignition switches. the switches could cause the engine to stall and prevent air bags from deploying during a crash. coming up on fox5 news morning winter still months away but we're already getting getting ready for it. >> forecasters are out with their annual prediction. after the break find out

still across the eastern half of the u.s. keeping us nice and cool. look at this kind of black streak coming down into the north pacific. that's your next storm system. it's been hanging over there for the past few days because it's kind of blocked off here but eventually this block is going to push off shore and allow this energy to push east ward. that's your next chance of rain setting up but not until next tuesday. satellite and radar around the region showing a couple high thin clouds coming in out of the north but that's about it. generally speaking it will be another sunny bright and beautiful day. temperature outside 56 in washington. surrounded by 40's. richmond is at 47. beckley west virginia is 46 as is columbus. suburbs are in the 40's as well. not seeing too much in the way of 30's out there so a little bit warmer than the past several mornings but still a morning where you'll need the light jacket. high pressure we call them two sided highs because nice cool air is coming down on the front side. backside we have the mild care and again this area of high pressure slowly scooting east so it's certainly by this afternoon we're getting into some of the more

many of us headed for the 70's. one or two north or west higher elevations out to the west will stay in the 60's but low elevations around d.c., baltimore should all be in the 70's later on this afternoon. in fact 75 for that washington, 76 manassas, 76 for quantico, maybe 77 for fredericksburg. high pressure kind of continues to scoot east this weekend. saturday is beautiful. as we head into sunday, little bit of an on-shore flow should mix us in with some cloud cover but that's no. no rain expected. should still be a very pleasant day. fox5 accuweather 7-day forecast, 75 today. enjoy the sunshine. tomorrow few clouds especially later in the day. sunday's a mix of clouds and sun. we head into monday, we're mostly cloudy and tuesday's the day where the rain kind of comes in. all right, that's a check of the forecast. erin is back with traffic this morning. how's it looking erin. >> that's right, 5:17. things starting to wake up this friday morning. caution right now with a construction zone. it's gw parkway southbound between the key bridge and roosevelt bridge. left lane blocked but traffic is light enough it's not causing any major delays yet. 66 looking good in arlington. as we look at 395 you can see in the

yesterday maybe that tragedy wouldn't have turned out as bad as it did. >> radee prince is in custody in delaware where he was captured. he pled not guilty to attempted murder and several weapons charges for shooting a victim in that state. >> we have an update on a man accused of posting bogus jobs operon craigslist to lure womeno interviews where he assaulted them. police arrested imtiaz rauf for sexually abusing women he lured. he faced several charges in montgomery county. rauf is a registered sex offender. >> a maryland guidance counselor accused of abusing women he met on a popular dating app. women say they were sexually assaulted by the same man. the women claim they met colin plaque at his house after meeting him on the app tinder. he was a counselor at albert einstein public school. montgomery county public schools sent a letter home to re
